How does the mind work?
The mind can do many incredible things but can also be tricked very easily as well. Even when things seem to be right in front of you and then suddenly change, your brain doesn’t always register that. This is called Change Blindness when things suddenly get switched around while you’re looking and don’t notice. Inattentional Blindness is similar to Change Blindness, it’s when your brain does not register obvious objects being shown in front of them.
What did we include in this project?
In this experiment, we used a little of both techniques; in order to capture the audience’s attention we had a member of our group [which in this case was me] doodle on a canvas and have those drawings as focal points. We had another member of our group record from bird’s-eye view [for the drawings] to floor view. While having the background change frequently.
Eyewitness Testimony?
Eyewitness testimony is the term you would use for when someone is a witness to a situation. Our video did have this but the purpose was to not rely on that so much because we had so many swaps of the drawings, background as well as characters being filmed throughout the video.
Can we rely on Eyewitness Testimonies?
An eyewitness can be very helpful because there is actual proof of what has happened, being told by someone else — but imagine being the witness to a robbery and not being able to remember license plates, where the criminal fled to or even being about to describe them to the police.
In Conclusion…
What I’d like you all to take from this is to not trust fully on your eyes, they’re not always right. They only see what your brain wants to see; whatever it focuses on is all you’ll ever get to know. This could really benefit you later on in life for simple tasks as well as any kind of job involved with legal issues.
